On Thursday, Municipal Commissioner Maheswari conducted a surprise check at the shops located on the railway station road. When they searched Mahadev Enterprises, the team found banned plastic covers and containers hidden inside the shop.
Sources said that the Municipal officials had already warned the owner of Mahadev Enterprises against selling goods in plastic covers. As the shopkeeper was handing over plastic carry bags even after repeated warnings, the Commissioner ordered to seal the shop and pay Rs 1 lakh penalty.
Officials seized over 300 kg plastics from the shop. They also checked other shops in the locality, but none of them were found using plastics. Officials said that the lock and seal and fine slapped on the shop would serve as a warning for all traders who continue to sell plastic products despite the ban.
They added that close monitoring frequent raids would be conducted and shopkeepers who are selling banned plastic goods would be punished.
