When the plea came before them, a division bench comprising Justice M Sathyanarayanan and Justice R Hemalatha ordered notice returnable on March 13 after the counsels appearing for the government sought time to file status report on the issue with supporting documents and photographs.
The petitioner, R Viswanathan alias MGR Viswanathan of Gopalapuram East, submitted that the Saidapet government hospital is located within the limits of Greater Corporation of Chennai. However, but the administrative control vests with the Kancheepuram District Medical Services right from 2011.
Hence, even for a small clarification and work to be done, the concerned authorities must travel all the way to Kancheepuram to get necessary instructions and assistance, the petitioner appearing as party-in-person, informed the court.
He also noted that he had submitted a detailed representation to authorities in this regard on August 1, 2019.
But despite receipt and acknowledgment, no response has come forth and no action has been taken to improve the facilities in the said hospital and also transfer the administration to an authority within Chennai city, the petitioner said.
