The authorities of Chennai’s one of the most famous temple, Kapaleeswarar temple in Mylapore has now announced that there would be dress codes for everyone who visits the temple.

Following an accusation that people who come to temple are not dressed 'decent enough' to enter a place of worship, the Madras High Court had in 2016 ordered all temples to impose dress codes for the worshippers. According to the order, only those who wear veshti, saree and salwars are allowed.

While many temples had implemented this rule, Kapaleeswarar temple had announced on Friday that women in leggings and men in t-shirts will not be allowed to enter the temple premises.

Although many have welcomed the imposition with cultural point of view, others feel that spirituality is beyond dress codes.
