City hospital launches group to support cardiac patients
A hospital in the city has launched a support group for cardiac patients as they need exercise training and emotional support apart from clinical care for recovery. Dr Rela Institute and Medical Centre (RIMC) launched Rela Heart Beats to help patients in rehabilitation facilities and to ease their recovery.

The initiative supports patients by offering a platform to all the members to share their experiences in a mutually supportive environment. The initiative is exclusively run by the patients for the patients. The support group will discuss the challenges and success stories of all patients who have come out of the heart-related health difficulties and are recovering.
At the launch of the centre, Dr Balamurali Srinivasan, senior consultant and clinical lead in the Department of Cardiac Sciences, RIMC, said that the initiative will provide a wide range of benefits and connects the patients under rehabilitation together. RIMC also welcomes all cardiac patients from other medical institutions, who have undergone cardiac procedures, to be a part of the support group,” he said.
Dr Mohamed Rela, Chairman at RIMC and a liver transplant surgeon, stated that the RIMC will start heart transplants soon. Dr V Narendra Kumar, Senior Consultant, Interventional Cardiology, Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology in the Department of Cardiac Sciences, said that the group will have a sense of fellowship among the people who have gone through similar cardiac interventions and include outpatient rehabilitation services.
