The family had recently posted a video about their decision to end life because of a property dispute. The police suspect that they committed suicide as they were in a land dispute with their relatives.
The police noted that Ravi (49) a resident of Kokkupalayam village near Gummidipoondi was staying with his wife Veerammal, their son Balamurali (25) and daughter Deivayani.
Ravi and his brother Siva was in a dispute over a property and had lodged separate complaints at the Arambakkam police station two months ago.
According to the police, the family went to a temple on February 20 and failed to return home. Suspecting foul play, Ravi’s elder brother Ramadas lodged a complaint at the Arambakkam police.
However, the bodies of Veerammal and Deivayani washed ashore at Pulicat estuary on Tuesday.
While the Thirupalaivanam police registered a case over unidentified bodies washed ashore on Wednesday, the deceased were identified later.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the family had recorded a video before they went missing and we suspect that it was a suicide. We are still searching for Ravi and Balamurali,” a police officer said.
