The women’s protest that started on February 14 condemning the crackdown by police in Washermanpet and seeking the repelling of CAA-NRC-NPR has subsequently reached 14th day. The women protesters called out more participants from the Non-Musli commuties to take part in the protest, as the massive turnout could help get an immediate reaction from the government. “We have crossed 14 days but still there is no response from the government. Till the State government cancels the Bill we will continue to protest; we ensure that it will be a peaceful protest till the end. We did not send our children to school. Only from Monday, we started sending them and they will return here after school,” said Shamemma Nisha, a resident ofTiruvottiyur.

The protesters also appealed to the members of other communities to join them for finding a solution faster. “If there are 1,000 Muslims in the protest only 50 are non-Muslims. All think that the Bill is a threat only for Muslims. But in the future even others will face similar issues which they are not aware of it,” said Wasjid M, Old Washermanpet President, Yegathuva Muslim Jamath. “For instance, in New Delhi both Muslims and Non-Muslims joined together and protested against the act, as they knew that one day the government will impose such acts on them. Whereas, only in our State, people don’t give importance to the issue.”
