The poster read ‘Delhi Burned (sic) Is Chennai Next? #ShaheenBagh’, implying that the violence that broke out in Delhi killing several people could replicate in Chennai if the protests against Citizen Amendment Act continue in the city.
Thousands of men and women participated in the rally led by BJP leaders as part of their State-wide campaign, including Tiruchy, Madurai, Villupuram, Thoothukudi and Nagapattinam, to allay fears about CAA on Friday. It was held following a rally held against CAA by a union of various Muslim organisations on February 19.
It may be noted that Tamil Nadu Students and Youth Federation coordinator ‘Loyola’ Mani on Sunday submitted a petition at the city police commissionerate seeking action against those carrying posters inciting communal violence at the pro-CAA rally.
While the petition has been forwarded to the Triplicane police since the rally venue falls under their jurisdiction, an official confirmed that they have launched a hunt for the person. No case has been registered yet.
