He was travelling on his two-wheeler on Saturday night when it rammed metal barricades. His friend, who was riding pillion, escaped with injuries and has been admitted to a hospital. The police said that the rider could have been under the influence of alcohol.
The police identified the deceased as Livingston Daniel (23), a resident of Rajamangalam. He was unemployed. His friend Karthik, a resident of Old Washermenept, is a graduate and works in a private company.
According to the Pulianthope traffic investigation wing, they had gone out on Saturday evening and were returning to Washermenpet when the accident happened.
As work on the side ledge of the overbridge was ongoing, two-layers of barricades were as a temporary wall to prevent people from falling onto the railway track.
Visuals from surveillance cameras in the area showed the bike coming at a high speed and ramming the barricades before falling to a depth of 30 feet. The police used a crane to lift the two-wheeler from the track on Sunday.
