Coronavirus: CM to hold review meet today

At a time when coronavirus has started to make inroads into the neighbouring state of Kerala, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has called an urgent review meeting at the Secretariat on Monday to discuss the steps taken to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

Sources in Secretariat said the Chief Minister would hold a multi-department review meeting after the Assembly session on the steps to be taken to stop the spread of coronavirus in the State. The CM will also review the facilities to tackle any outbreak of epidemics in the State”.

Though there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus in the State, a couple of persons are quarantined in isolated wards after they were suspected to have contracted the deadly virus. The State government, through Chief Secretary K Shanmugam has already passed on a detailed circular to all the district collectors on the precautionary measures to be taken in the districts to ensure that any emergency situation is met with.

Another detailed circular has also been dispatched by the School Education department on the precautionary measures to be taken at the schools and by the students such as washing hands regularly and using of face masks to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Under the circumstance, the Chief Minister will hold the review meeting where Health Secretary Beela Rajesh will submit the report of the current status of coronavirus in the State.

Meanwhile, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, on Sunday, said that State government is taking necessary precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the State and has asked people not to panic.
