Juvenile among 8 college students arrested for damaging MTC bus

A day after two groups of college students clashed and damaged an MTC bus at Otteri, a special team of the Pulianthope police arrested eight students, including juvenile.

The police arrested M Mageshkumar (19) of Kolathur (second-year BSc Chemistry student), P Anbu (19) of Kolathur (second-year BCom) E Kishore (19) of Kolathur (first-year BA Economics), S Marimuthu (19) of Kalyanapuram and a 17-year-old boy of Pachaiyappa’s college and D Meganathan (22) of Ponniammanmedu (second-year MA Economics), M Abishek (19) of Tiruvottiyur (first-year BA political science) and S Arun (18) of Kakkanji Nagar (first-year BCom) of Presidency college. They were booked under the Tamil Nadu Public Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act and sent in judicial custody, while the juvenile was sent to an observation home.


The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon at Mangalapuram bus stop at Jamalia. “The Pachaiyappa’s college students travelling on 29E bus and Presidency College students travelling in 29A got into a fight and hurled stones at each other. One of the stones hit an MTC bus and damaged the windshield,” the police said.


While police picked up Meganathan as his bag was abandoned, based on his inputs, the other students were secured. Investigation revealed that the clash was over which college is more powerful in the MTC bus route.


In his complaint, MTC driver (29A) R Vijayakumar said that the college students who boarded the bus at Kannagi Nagar bus stop disturbing other passengers despite the requests not to do so.
