The postal intelligence officers of Air Customs spotted a parcel at the foreign post office in Meenambakkam that was declared as wedding documents. But when they examined it on suspicion, it was found to contain some blue coloured tablets.
When tested, the officers found that it was MMDA, a narcotic drug.
There were 384 grams of the tablets, estimated to be worth Rs 30 lakh, which have been sent to laboratory for confirmation.
As the parcel was addressed to a person in Mysuru, the officers searched the premises and arrested Hrishikesh, a 23-year-old who recently graduated from JSS Science and Technology University there. He reportedly told the officers that these pills were in high demand among the youth in Bengaluru, especially among partygoers.
The seized blue tablets known as ‘Blue Punisher’ have a skull mark on them like the popular Marvel Comics character ‘Punisher’. It is said to be three times stronger than most of the other forms of ecstasy pills, and contains a high dosage of MMDA.
The Customs officials said in a press statement that MDMA is widely known as Ecstasy and Molly, a party drug that rues mood and perception. It is chemically similar to both stimulants and hallucinogens, which produce a feeling of increased energy and pleasure.
