3 booked for forced pre-marriage abortion

The Tirumangalam all-women police booked a man for impregnating a 25-year-old woman on the promise of marrying her. His mother and sister have also been booked for forcing the woman to abort and for delaying the marriage even after collecting Rs 40 lakh as dowry.

The police said that Meena (name changed) is a student of a private college. The accused G Balaji became friends with her in 2018 after introducing himself as the son of a judge. While they were in a relationship, she became pregnant.


However, Balaji’s mother Krishnaveni allegedly asked the girl to opt for abortion before the wedding and also demanded dowry to let Balaji marry her. Even after receiving the dowry, Krishnaveni, Balaji and his sister Sujatha reportedly delayed the marriage. Balaji allegedly threatened the girl that he would release their intimate photos on social media. Based on her complaint, the Tirumangalam all-women police have registered a case and furtherinvestigation is on.


42-year-old held forharassing married woman


Meanwhile, the Koyambedu police arrested a private firm employee for harassing a married woman after befriending her on WhatsApp.


The police said that the accused, Vivekanandan (42) of Kolathur, started talking to the woman from Koyambedu as they were part of a WhatsApp group. Since the last one month, Vivekanandan is said to be talking to the woman in an obscene manner. As she started avoiding him, Vivekanandan reached her house when her husband was not at home and allegedly threatened her. The woman lodged a complaint at the Koyambedu police station and Vivekanandan was arrested under harassment charges.
