Water supply to be hit in south Chennai

The water supply to southern parts of Chennai would be affected for 15 days as the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (Metro Water) has decided to undertake maintenance works at Nemmeli seawater desalination plant. Residents have been asked to approach the area engineers to meet their requirement during this period.

According to a statement by Metro Water, the supply of 100 MLD (million litres per day) water would be stopped for 15 days from March 17 to April 1 to fix travelling band screen (TBS). This would affect water supply to areas in south Chennai like Tiruvanmiyur, Kottivakkam, Palavakkam, Perungudi, Adyar, Velachery, Besant Nagar, Mylapore, Mandaveli, Sholinganallur, Injambakkam and Neelankarai.


“However, alternate arrangements have been made to supply water during the above period for these areas,” stated the release. In view of the interruption in supply, the water manager has requested the public to store enough quantity of water and use the available water judiciously.


Residents may also contact the concerned area engineers through 8144930909 (Mylapore and Mandaveli), 8144930913 (Adyar, Velachery, Besant Nagar, Tiruvanmiyur), 8144930914 (Kottivakkam, Palavakkam, Perungudi) and 8144930915 (Injambakkam, Neelankarai, Sholinganallur) for lorry water.
