Phone’s owner finds thieves’ selfie on iCloud, duo arrested

Two men who stole four phones, including an iPhone, from a house in Rendam Kattalai landed in prison after its owner saw a selfie they clicked on the iPhone.

K Mahesh, a private firm employee, has been living at an apartment at Rendam Kattalai for the past few months with his friends. On Thursday morning, Mahesh found his iPhone, the mobile phones of his three flatmates and two wristwatches missing. He lodged a complaint at the Kudrathur police station.


Meanwhile, Mahesh traced the phone through iCloud and to his surprise, he found a selfie of the thieves in his iCloud account. He submitted the photo and the phone’s location to the Kundrathur police and they secured the duo.


The accused were identified as S Chinnathambi (23) and M Suresh (32) of Kundrathur. “They are relatives,” the police said.


Similarly, the Rajamangalam police arrested a 26-year-old man for stealing mobile phones from a government hostel for college students in Villivakkam. The accused, V George Bush of Rajamangalam, was remanded in judicial custody.
