Health Min inaugurates conference on COVID-19

Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar inaugurated the conference on ‘International COVID-19 Update’ at Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University on Tuesday. The update was organised by the vice chancellor Dr Sudha Seshayyan and Tamil Nadu State branch of Indian Medical Association.

Medical experts from various medical institutions across the world discussed the current global situation on COVID-19 and the counter measures needed to be taken against the infection. Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chancellor, Anna University, presided overthe function.


Professor Dr Vijayakumar Velu from Emory Vaccine Center, Yerkes National Primate Research Center, Atlanta, USA; Microbiology /NSW Health Pathology senior staff specialist Hemalatha Varadhan from University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia and World Health Organization (WHO) chief scientist Dr.Soumya Swaminathan participated in the event with severalresource members.


Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar said that internationally reputed healthcare scientists who work towards vaccine researches for inventing antiviral vaccines to combat COVID-19 shared their experience on the subject.


“The global situation, new strategies against the infection, and other topics related to combat the infection by more than 800 doctors and medicos were connected through the video conference. The authorities at the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University will submit a report on the conference that will help to analyse the treatment and research facilities available across the globe,” said the health minister.


He added that the State health department is trying to prevent the community spread of the infection and we are prepared on war footing. He also added that preparedness and inspection check is being inspected by the State healthdepartment officials.
