Based on a tip-off that drugs were stored in bulk at a house in Mannady to distribute across the city, NIB-CID sleuths sent a decoy disguised as a prospective buyer.

After the decoy managed to purchase 100 grams of methamphetamine, NIB sleuths raided the house on Wednesday morning and seized 3 kg of methamphetamine, 1.060 kg of charas (cannabis resin) and 75 grams of heroin.

The suspects, S Selvamani (31) of Mannady and U Mohammed Nilaf (30) of Mattakulia in Colombo, Sri Lanka, were picked up. An official said that the duo smuggled the consignment from Myanmar and kept it in the house to sell, stated the police.

Further investigation is underway to find out if the suspects belonged to a larger group. An official said that more arrests would be made in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the Kodambakkam police seized 102 packs of foreign cigarettes from a tea shop and arrested two persons. The accused, KB Suresh (45) of Kodambakkam and M Sarbudhin (50) of Tirunelveli, were remanded in judicial custody.
