BAPASI announces literary awards for the year 2020

The Booksellers’ and Publishers’ Association of South India (BAPASI) organises Chennai Book Fair, one of the largest book fairs in Asia, for the past 43 years consecutively.

During the 30th Chennai Book Fair inaugurated by the then chief minister M Karunanidhi on January 10, 2007, he donated Rs 1 crore to form a trust under BAPASI.

From then on every year, the interest drawn from the capital amount was used to honour and award writers and scholars from various fields. BAPASI has shouldered this responsibility and so far 82 writers and scholars have been honoured with the award amounting to Rs 82 lakh. BAPASI has announced the selected list of writers to be honoured with Kalaignar Karunanidhi’s Porkili for the year 2020. The writers are N Murugesa Pandian (prose), A Mangai (drama), Arivumathi (poetry), Ponneelan (novel), Siddalingaiah (other languages — Kannada) and R Balakrishnan IAS (English). The award ceremony will be held on April 23, World Book Day.
