The police said that the duo deliberately started spreading false information on social media saying that as many as 12 people infected by coronavirus died in Poonamalee and many more are getting infected. The police said that the rumour created panic among the members of the people and two were arrested. They later told the police that they decided to spread the rumour so that the company in which they were working would declare holiday fearing the spread of the pandemic. It may be recalled that the Director General of Police had issued an order to take strict action against those spreading false news/rumours about COVID-19.
