“All private hospitals, irrespective of their size, should have spraying equipment. If they don’t have the equipment to disinfect their premises, they will be severely dealt with,” warned Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash on Monday.
The civic body has also directed Deputy Commissioners, chief engineers, zonal officials and other senior officials to inspect the private hospitals. “I will directly inspect the bigger government hospitals and private hospitals. As hospitals could become potential centres for the infection to spread, this has to be seriously understood by all medical professionals,” Prakash added.
Explaining the reason behind issuing such a warning to the hospitals, an official added, “Hospital door handles, chairs, tables, railings and even counters could carry the virus. It is important to disinfect the hospitals more frequently.”
