The police said Xavier Arul had killed his niece in 2007 when he went to Tirupur to settle a dispute between his sister and her 28-year-old daughter.
Arul of Sholinganallur was arrested two weeks ago along with his son Vijay and their friend Amul Raj for allegedly killing a youth to extract money from him. Later, he was found to have murdered a 23-year-old woman with whom Vijay had a relationship. Both had happened in different times, but the suspects had dumped the bodies in Pallikaranai lake. The killers had removed the uterus of the woman before dumping her body in the lake to make it look like she was a transperson.
Arul was taken into custody for a detailed questioning, during which he confessed to the third murder that happened in 2007.
He told the investigators that he murdered his niece in 2007. According to the officials, Arul’s sister was living with her 28-year-old daughter after her husband deserted her. The daughter was also separated from her husband.
The mother and daughter used to fight with each other over the mother’s alleged relationships with some men in the neighbourhood. Arul had gone to Tirupur to settle the fight between his sister and niece. However, while discussing the matter, he allegedly hit his niece. In the impact, she collapsed and died. Without informing anybody, Xavier and his sister buried the body inside the house, the police said.
A police team is now heading to Arul’s sister’s house in Tirupur to confirm that the confession about was true.
