The 73-year-old woman, a resident of Commissioner Colony, was admitted to Das Nursing Home at Prem Nagar in Pozhichalur nearly a week ago. As her condition was not improving, she was referred to Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRMC) at Porur on March 25 (Wednesday).
When her blood samples tested positive for COVID-19, she was shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) on Friday and admitted to the special ward for COVID patients.
After being alerted by the Health department officials about the possible spread the woman could have caused, Pozhichalur panchayat staff visited the elderly woman's house and stuck a notice at its entrance. The woman’s husband, son, daughter-in-law and two grandsons were quarantined in the house itself and blood samples have been collected for tests to confirm whether any of them have been infected.
Also, 70 others from Pozhichalur and Pammal, who had contact with her in the past few weeks have been identified and asked to quarantine themselves in their respective houses.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Pallavaram Tahsildar visited the hospital and sealed the premises temporarily since the hospital authorities failed to inform the health department about the senior citizen's condition.
