In one of the incidents, the accused were the salesmen of the same shop who decided to steal and sell the bottles in the black market. The incident happened at a shop (No 9016) on Kakkalur road on Friday night. When salesmen Ramakrishnan (40) and Senthilkumar (45), along with their friend Kesavaperumal (27) opened the shop, the neighbours alerted the police who nabbed the suspects.

The police seized Rs 4 lakh in cash, 240 beer bottles and 350 180 ml liquor bottles from them, and also the four-wheeler they used. The trio was remanded in judicial custody.

Similarly, two siblings who tried to steal bottles by drilling a hole into a Tasmac shop (No 9115) in Kayalarmedu near Gummidipoondi Sipcot were arrested on Friday night. The accused, Ramesh, a car driver, and his brother Vetrivel, a private firm employee, were frustrated over not getting liquor ever since the lockdown was announced.

They decided to loot a Tasmac shop and identified this outlet. On Friday night, they drilled a hole and tried to escape with three cases of liquor. However, the alert neighbours informed the police, who caught them.
