Royapuram tops city numbers with 20 cases

The densely populated Royapuram zone in the northern part of the city is the worst affected by the COVID-19 outbreak as the zone alone has so far reported 20 positive cases, which is highest among the 15 zones.

The city had reported over 80 positive cases on Sunday taking the total number of cases to the 500-mark in the State.

According to a Chennai Corporation data, 82 cases were reported in Chennai as on Sunday and every zone has at least one positive case. 

Zones in the central region have reported more than 10 cases each. Anna Nagar and Kodambakkam zones have 12 cases each. Thiru Vi Ka Nagar and Teynampet zones have 11 cases each. Last week, Royapuram zone had reported nearly 10 cases followed by Kodambakkam which had reported 6 cases. Meanwhile, the civic body and the police have sealed streets surrounding the residences of affected persons and have started conducting containment drive.

Also, the civic body had started a door-to-door survey across the city to identify persons with symptoms. Those who have common cold or fever will be admitted to Corporation hospitals. “The higher officials have instructed us to collected name of the residents while conducting the door-to-door survey. But the residents are refusing to provide the name and other details,” an official said.
