Saloon opens after WhatsApp msg, RDO seals it

The Maduranthagam RDO sealed a saloon which was operating in violation of the prohibitory orders on Tuesday. The owner claimed that he opened the shop after reading a WhatsApp forward that the government has permitted the opening of the saloons for a day.

Maduranthagam police have filed a case against the saloon owner. The RDO said the people should not believe such fake messages.Maduranthagam RDO Lakshmi Priya was inspecting the area when she noticed a saloon functioning with many people crowded inside. Officials said the customers were reading newspapers and chatting without following social distancing.

When the RDO spoke to the owner of the shop, the latter said he received a message on WhatsApp that government had permitted to open the saloon for a day. However, the RDO was not convinced and sealed the shop and the Maduranthagam police filed a case against the shop owner.

Meanwhile, with the summer heat picking up and the saloons shut down, the parents have started to cut the hair of their kids on their own. A mother who was found giving her child a haircut opined that kids could catch cold easily if they have longer hair.

Meanwhile, the Kancheepuram Municipal Commissioner sealed five shops on Tuesday following complaints of selling essential commodities at an exorbitant price. Municipal Commissioner Maheshwari and other officials conducted a surprise raid and found the charges to be true. They sealed the shops immediately. The police have registered cases against all the shopkeepers.

Maheshwari said the public can complain about such shops to the municipality over the phone or by sending a Whatsapp message.
