In a tweet, Chennai Corporation wrote, “Now you can see the COVID-19 containment hotspots of Chennai embedded in a map view in our GCC Corona Monitoring App.” It added that the app could be downloaded from the Google Play Store. The app which geotags people with fever will also help in monitoring those who are at home quarantined due to the virus

The Chennai Corporation has so far created 90 COVID-19 containment zones across the city to prevent entry or exit of people from such hotspots to prevent the spread of the infection. The app has registered around 3,000 downloads with more than 50 symptomatic cases being registered on it everyday. The Corporation is monitoring health of nearly 1 lakh people using the app. As on Tuesday, the city has reported 211 positive cases. Among the 90 zones in the city, Royapuram has a maximum of 26 hotspots with 63 positive cases followed by Thiru Vi Ka Nagar which has 26 cases with 14 hotspots. Anna Nagar has 12 containment zones while Teynampet has 8 such zones.

Earlier, Corporation Commissioner G Prakash said that the civic body has been disinfecting the containment zones five times a day to prevent the spread of the virus. He added that they have set a target to test 40,000 people in these containment zones by April 30. “We have set up 35 collection centres and collected samples from 600 people so far,” he said.
