The incident happened at Tamaraipakkam junction in Tiruvallur and social activists had been trying to highlight the incident through social media saying the farmer was unnecessarily harassed by the police. Though the government had allowed the movement of agriculture produce, small farmers were finding it difficult to transport them on two-wheelers, unlike four-wheelers.
In the video, the man was seen dumping a bag full of ladies fingers and another bag of brinjal on the road to protest the long wait imposed by the police. “How long should one keep waiting,” the farmer was seen lamenting in the video, while someone, probably a policeman, was heard saying “Okay, if you want to dump them on the road, you dump it”. Soon the man starts emptying his bags in front of the police vehicle, and motorists could be seen stopping vehicles in a shock and the police jeep taking a reverse.
When contacted, a senior police officer claimed that the farmer behaved in an unacceptable manner, due to anger. He also sent a video in which the farmer was seen accepting the fact that he did it in sudden anger without any provocation.
