The incident happened on Tuesday at a marriage hall in Moolaikadai, where Manivannan and Maran were distributing relief materials to members of public on behalf of Rajini Makkal Mandram.

According to the police, people had gathered in large numbers, breaking the prohibitory orders. They also failed to maintain social distance despite warning from the police. There was no effort from the organisers to make sure that people followed the lockdown norms while collecting the relief materials, said sources.

On Thursday, police officials said they have registered case against Manivannan and Maran under three sections, including provisions under the Epidemic Diseases Act.

Apart from unlawful assembly, the police have also booked them under IPC section for disobeying an order promulgated by a public servant, officials said. Sources said the duo may be arrested if needed. The police have been instructed to take strict action against those violating the lockdown norms in the coming days, as many were found roaming without any proper reasons.
