Carrot beer maker, wine-making woman secured in Tiruvottiyur
The Tiruvottiyur police secured two persons, including a woman, for allegedly brewing liquor at home, while a grocer was arrested for selling alcohol.

Sukumar of Tiruchinankuppam road in Tiruvottiyur was making a drink with carrot juice and sold it as alternative to alcohol to the youth in the locality. Based on a tip-off, the police raided his house and seized what he called carrot beer. Officials said carrot beer was popular in the locality and youngsters used to queue up in front of his house to buy it for Rs 200 per litre. Sukumar was arrested, and two litres of carrot beer was seized. Sukumar apparently mixed yeast in carrot juice and bottled it after two days for sale.
Similarly, a 54-year-old woman was booked for making wine at home for sale. V Mary of Pattinathar Koil Street was secured from her house on Saturday and five litres of wine was seized. A case was registered and Mary was let off on station bail.
The Tiruvottiyur police also arrested a 38-year-old grocer for allegedly selling liquor at his shop. Based on a tip-off, officials searched his shop and seized five 180-ml bottles. He was booked and released on station bail.
Meanwhile, the Prohibition Enforcement Wing of Gummidipoondi police seized 30 litres of wash kept for fermentation in a farm land and arrested Venkatesan (42) and Vignesh (23) of Narasingapuram village on Saturday.
