After a hospital worker at RGGGH tested COVID positive on Friday, a number of undergraduate and postgraduate medicos of the General Medicine Department of Madras Medical College hostels have been asked to self-quarantine. Students allege that three interns on Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) have already tested positive and most are under quarantine. Sample results of the medicos are awaited.

“The general wards are currently overseen by day scholars and women staff as there is a shortage of students now. The casualty ward is functioning with minimal staff but if this continues, we might have to refer patients to other hospitals,” said a medico under quarantine at MMC. When contacted, RGGGH medical superintendent Dr Narayana Swami said that medicos have been kept under quarantine as a preventive measure and clarified there are adequate doctors at the general wards.
