A few days ago, a video of a driver was doing the rounds on social media in which he accused a traffic inspector of slapping a fine of Rs 1,000 as he refused to part with Rs 300 as bribe.
In the one-minute-long video, the driver said he was transporting a harvesting machine in a truck to his field when he was stopped by the inspector. When the officer allegedly demanded Rs 300, the driver gave Rs 50 and irked over it, he issued him a challan of Rs 1,000 claiming the truck was overloaded.
Since the government has allowed carrying out of agricultural activities despite the lockdown, the driver drew the Chief Minister’s attention into the matter in the video. After the clip reached the senior police officers, an inquiry was ordered which reportedly proved the allegations against inspector S Chelladurai, who is serving in Gummidipoondi.
On Tuesday, Tiruvallur Superintendent moved the inspector to Armed Reserve and recommended departmental action against him.
