J Radhakrishnan, special officer of COVID-19 control, said the Corporation would quarantine only houses and buildings from where positive cases are reported rather than blocking entire streets.

At present, the civic body is sealing the whole street if any COVID-19 positive cases are reported from the particular area. As on Sunday morning, the city had 587 containment zones.

Pointing out that most cases are concentrated in only a few localities, he said only 2 out of 200 divisions has more than 200 cases. A total of 119 divisions have 1 to 10 cases. Around 60 divisions have 11 to 30 positive cases.

Radhakrishnan also said that the Koyambedu market cluster is stabilising after a surge. “But, some parts in north Chennai and Thiruvanmiyur market are emerging as new clusters,” he said, adding, that he is being misquoted by the media on his alleged statement regarding numbers rising in the next one week. “I just asked the public not to panic if the number goes up and that they should continue taking precautions,” Radhakrishnan said.
