The duo was traced and brought back from Naxal infested AP-Odisha border by a team led by the jailor who erroneously let them walk out from the prison on last Monday.

Remind prisoners S Rama Siva and Vanthala Murali, arrested by NCB Chennai under NDPS Act in last week of October after 187 grams of ganja was seized from them.

According to a press release, the two prisoners were released inadvertently by Jailor Gunasekar last Monday though their bail was rejected due to strong objection by NCB for involvement in ganja smuggling.

The mistake was realised the next day, Tuesday, and immediately a special team led by Gunasekar proceeded to Andhra Pradesh, the native state of the accused.

On Saturday, at around 5.30 pm, the special team recaptured these prisoners at Chidapallai, Narasingapattinam, about 100 km away from Visakhapatnam with the help of local police and prison officials there.

Both the prisoners were lodged in Sub Jail, Poonamallee, on Monday and kept in quarantine. DGP Prisons Sunil Kumar Singh has asked the DIG Prisons to conduct an inquiry into the incident.
