Weathermen predict isolated rains, thunderstorms and rise in temp

Many parts of the State may receive light to moderate rains accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in the coming two days, while many other parts of Tamil Nadu may record high temperature.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has asked fishermen not to venture into the sea from Thursday to Saturday.

Meanwhile, a few places, including the East Coast Road, received rain on Tuesday.

“The city would be generally cloudy for the next two days. In Tamil Nadu, a thunderstorm with light to moderate rainfall is expected at Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Sivaganga and Kanniyakumari,” said an RMC official.

Fishermen were advised not to go fishing from May 14 to 16, as thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty winds with speed reaching 40-50 kmph are likely to occur in isolated places.

For the next 48 hours, there is a heat warning for parts of Tamil Nadu as the maximum temperature will be close to 40 degrees Celsius at Karur, Tiruchy, Salem and Dharmapuri.

Public and farmers were warned not to expose themselves to direct sunlight from 11.30 am to 3.30 pm.
