As per the case, Perumal and Kalaiyammal of Yelagiri Hills in Vellore kidnapped and murdered a person in 2013. But after the charge sheet was filed, the duo who was let out on bail absconded.

Following this, a non-bailable warrant was issued in 2015. But it took four years for the police to nab them again. They were arrested on November 7, 2019, and were remanded in judicial custody.

Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan, before whom the plea came for hearing, noted that the case was pending trial before the III Additional District and Sessions Judge, Vellore.

Hence, releasing the petitioners at this stage on bail would result in them evading trial, said the court.
