Special flight takes 210 Australian citizens home

As many as 210 Australian citizens departed to their country from the Chennai airport on Wednesday.

The Australians who came to India for work and education were stranded here during the lockdown as they could not travel to their country. The Australian embassy got permission from the Indian government and arranged a special flight to evacuate their citizens.

On Tuesday, the Qantas aircraft from Sydney airport landed at the Chennai airport. Sources said that this is the first time Qantas Airways, known for its high safety standards, is landing a flight at Chennai airport.

On Wednesday morning, the Australians from various places in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka were brought to the Chennai airport on special vehicles. A total of 210 passengers, including 22 children, were boarded after completing medical checkup and they departed to Sydney at 3 pm.
