SHRC notice over needle in baby’s thigh
The SHRC has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report of medical negligence leading to a broken needle stuck in newborn girl’s thigh for 70 days. It sought a detailed report from Director of Medical and Rural Health Services, Chennai.

According to the report, parents alleged that it was caused by the negligence of staff at Manapparai GH where the baby was born and vaccinated.
Thamarai Selvi, a resident of Kulithalai gave birth to a girl on March 9. After the first vaccine, both the mother and daughter were discharged on March 14. The report alleged that baby was repeatedly crying at home and the parents thought it was due to irritation caused by the vaccine.
The SHRC has now sought a detailed report from the Director of Medical and Rural Health Services a report within two weeks.
