Cops deployed at VVIP area test positive
At least three police constables from city police, who were assigned on bandobust duty at the residence of a High Court judge of another State, were tested positive for coronavirus infection. With this, the number of affected police personnel from the city police alone has gone up to 236.

Sources said the police personnel were deployed at the judge’s house on Greenways Road, where the top executives of the State, including the Chief Minister and senior Ministers, and judges of Madras High Court reside.
Earlier, at least five police constables attached to the commando force and core cell CID unit off Greenways Road were tested positive.
The number of cases where police personnel, who are in the frontline of the battle against the virus, becoming infected is going up each day, with eight police officials testing positive on Friday alone. They were admitted to various hospitals in the city, sources said.
According statistics available, of the 236 police officials who were undergoing treatment for the infection, 47 have been discharged. This includes 25 officials who were discharged from different hospitals on Friday.
Besides police personnel, officials from the Fire and Rescue Services have also been tested positive. So far, 31 personnel have been reported COVID positive, including 25 from Chennai. According to officials, 11 of them were discharged after treatment and would join duty on Saturday.
