The works have been restarted employing a lesser number of workers and following the lockdown norms. The body temperature of all the workers will be checked at the entrance and if anyone found with high temperature will not be permitted inside for work and will be sent for medical treatment. The workers should wear a mask compulsory and they should maintain social distancing. Sources said the construction site is being sanitised every few hours.

Sources said the first phase of the construction work was supposed to be finished by September this year. Because of the COVID-19 lockdown, the work had to be stopped for two months and even now the work cannot be carried out in full capacity and it is expected that the first phase will now be over only by early 2021.

The construction, which started in 2018, was planned in two phases in which the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal will be linked. The AAI had also planned to introduce multilevel car parking, malls, theatres and waiting rooms for the passengers. The total estimation of the project was Rs 2,467 crore.
