Corpn to open Siddha care centre

According to a Chennai Corporation source, the Siddha COVID care centre would come up in a private engineering college in Saligramam. "Patients admitted to the particular COVID care centre will be given Siddha medicines only. They will not take allopathic medicines. The centre will start to function from June 3," the source added.

The civic body has already started distributing Kabasura Kudineer, a Siddha medicine, to boost immunity and experimented with herbal tea in some zones where a huge number of cases were reported.

When contacted Dr K Veerababu, a Siddha doctor, on whom the civic body has entrusted the Centre, said that he has been providing Siddha medicines to patients admitted in Kilpauk Medical College Hospital and other government hospitals. "We are providing Siddha medicines along with allopathic medicines. It works fine against the virus and improves the immunity of the patients. The centre in Saligramam will have 150 beds," he added. He added that the government has appointed a team of Siddha doctors to treat COVID-19 patients.

The State government had already issued an order permitting Dr Veerababu to use Siddha medicines in government hospitals and to the public in the city. ‘‘The virus stays in the throat before attacking the lungs. Siddha medicines kill the virus at the throat itself and improve immunity. We sent some patients back home after recovery within three days with the help of Siddha medicines,’’ he said.
