A Balasubramanian, a resident of Sixth Avenue in Anna Nagar and an employee of a private firm, had parked a two-year-old Jaguar XE, provided by his employer, at his apartment. Balasubramanian’s driver had lost the keys to the car on May 26 and informed the Anna Nagar police the next day. However, four days later, the car went missing on May 31 (Sunday).

The police interrogated the driver and based on his suggestion that the security guard, V Vijayram (56) of Cuddalore, working in the adjacent apartment helps him clean the car often, the latter was picked up. Interrogation revealed that the driver dropped the keys by mistake, which Vijayram picked up, and he stole the car on May 31. “He had safely parked the car in a shed near Maduravoyal. During interrogation, Vijayram told the police that he had borrowed Rs 80,000 from a friend and was planning to use the car to repay the loan after finding the key. To avoid suspicion, he came to duty as usual,” said the police. He was remanded on Tuesday.
