Chief Minister flags off fire dept's mobile sanitiser team

“The bikes will be helpful to sanitise the narrow streets of Chennai and will help in preventing the spread of COVID-19,” said Chief Minister, after flagging off the bikes. After the lockdown commenced, the fire vehicles were used to spray sanitisers to prevent the spread of COVID-19. So far, 45,000 places were covered using fire vehicles and high-rise ladders in the city.

However, narrow streets were a huge challenge to officials in Greater Chennai Corporation. Even, the Chief Minister blamed the narrow and congested streets of Chennai as the prime reason for higher number of COVID-19 cases in the city.

To put an end to the crisis, the state government purchased 25 vehicles, each costing Rs 25,000, at the total cost of Rs 1.36 crore. The vehicles were fitted with pressurised sanitiser sprayer which can spray 1,620 litres per hour. Initially, these vehicles will be deployed in all the containment zones in Chennai and they will be gradually expanded to other regions. After successful containment of COVID-19, the vehicles will be used to douse fire in narrow streets of Chennai.
