The police identified the accused as Nagoor Meeran, 45, a resident of Periyamet. “Though he says that he is a sperm donor, we are unsure of this. We also cannot verify his claim because identities of donors and recipients are never disclosed to avoid these kinds of claims and conflicts,” noted a senior official. Police said he is into the leather business as well.

According to the police, the complainant had separated from her husband after 9 years of marriage. In 2017, she came in contact with the wife of the accused, who was a customer in the bank where the woman worked.

The couple - accused and his wife - got close to the victim and took her to a doctor for In vitro fertilization. “Since the accused knew the victim had been visiting a fertility clinic run by a doctor known to him, he started claiming that it was he who donated the sperm and started extracting money from the bank official, claiming that he had spent money for treatment as well, police said.

He also recently started regularly visiting her house and began harassing her by asking for huge sums of money and also tried to physically abuse her besides threatening to kill the 2-year-old twin daughters. Unable to handle his harassment, the woman lodged a complaint with the Egmore police after which Meeran was arrested.
