320 Indians return from Italy, Saudi on spl flights

As many as 320 Indians returned from Italy and Saudi Arabia on special flights on Thursday night.

Sources said the Indian Embassy requested the Italian government to arrange a special flight to evacuate Indians who were unable to return because of the lockdown. Following that, 170 passengers reached the Chennai airport via Doha on Thursday at 11.30 pm on a Qatar Airlines flight. All passengers were subjected to swab test and routine customs and immigration checks before taken to a private hotel in Anna Salai to be quarantined.

Another flight from Saudi Arabia arrived at the airport on Thursday night with 150 passengers. After medical examinations, they were sent to a quarantine camp arranged by the State government. Sources said 45 of them chose to stay at VIT college hostel in Melakotaiyur for free and the rest of them were taken to private hotels in Manapakkam and Guindy.

Meanwhile, six passengers who arrived from Qatar on Wednesday tested positive for coronavirus. As many as 153 Indians had arrived from Qutar on a special flight and were placed under in quarantine for 14 days on Wednesday.
