Though Rao claims to be a social activist, who had helped kids from economically backward sections and even sponsored such children’s education, he actually has two cases registered against him, a city police official said countering the claim made by the suspended cop. He also edited out him assaulting the other policeman and had only posted the portion in which he has been hit, the police said.

Of the two crime cases registered against him, one is in Kumdrathur police station, while the second one is in Ambattur station.

Police said the first case is about threatening the owner of an empty plot, asking him to sell the property in Kumdrathur.

The second case is about cheating a woman in Ambattur by claiming to be a police inspector and also taking a loan of Rs 60,000 from her.

On May 10 this year, Rao, who was attached to Vepery police station, had got involved in an exchange of blows, after he allegedly accused two other cops of being part of an illegal network of liquor sale at TP Chatram.
