The deceased S Saravanan alias Saravanakumar of Vembuli Ammal temple street in Tiruvanmiyur is said to be from a fisherman’s family and was working as a data entry operator, said police. Saravanakumar, who allegedly had differences with his 19-year-old girlfriend, a model and fashion technology student from Adyar, invited her to stay with him in a private hotel room at 12th West Street in Kamarajar for reconciliation talks.
Police said the hotel manager agreed to give the couple a room as Saravanakumar was known to him. While the lovers stayed there for two days, Saravanakumar, on Saturday evening, took the extreme step by jumping from the first floor of the building, following a quarrel with the girl under the influence of alcohol.
The shocked girl rushed him to a nearby private hospital from where he was shifted to Malar Hospital, Adyar. However, Saravanakumar died without responding to treatment within hours. His body was sent to Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered about the incident based on a complaint by Saravanakumar’s uncle Johnson and further investigation is on.
Police said that a separate case has been slapped against the hotel owner Adnan Ali under Sections 269, 271 of IPC and 3 of Tamil Nadu Epidemic Diseases Act for letting out rooms to visitors though it is prohibited during the lockdown.
