SSI’s death sparks COVID suspicion, test turns negative
Fearing virus infection, the funeral of a 57-year-old Special Sub Inspector from T Nagar police station, who died in Kancheepuram district, was stopped by the health officials in St Thomas Mount, suspecting that he could have died of COVID.

However, since the test results declared on Sunday confirmed that he did not contract the virus.
After it was confirmed that the policeman had died of kidney ailment and not COVID, his body was handed over to his kin after post-mortem examination.
Officials said that he was suffering from a kidney ailment and was on a long leave for treatment. After the lockdown came into effect, the SSI had left for his in-law’s place in Baluchetty Chatram in Kancheepuram district. However, on Friday, his condition worsened and was rushed to a local hospital in Kancheepuram. As he was declared brought dead, his body was taken to St Thomas Mount police quarters.
On information, health officials accompanied by the police reached the police quarters and retrieved the body, which had been kept to pay last respects for friends and family. Later, samples were collected for COVID test and the body was kept at Chromepet Government Hospital.
