AP youth buys Ecstasy pills on dark web, held

Ecstasy pills that were concealed inside a parcel which came from the Netherlands were seized by Customs officials from the Foreign Post Office on Wednesday. A 27-year-old engineering dropout from Andhra Pradesh who had bought the drug through the dark web was arrested in this connection.

Based on an input, Air Customs Postal Intelligence detained one parcel that arrived from Haarlem, the Netherlands, at the Foreign Post Office. They found it contained tin toy box which had two plastic pouches. When the opened the pouches, officials found green-yellow colour pills and pink colour pills ingeniously concealed inside.

In all, 400 MDMA pills, with an estimated value of Rs 12 lakh were seized. The green-yellow pills are commonly known as Brazuca containing more than 220 mg MDMA, while the pink pills are known as Givenchy, which has 250 mg of MDMA. Samples have been sent to the laboratory.

The officials found that the parcel was consigned to a person based in Bhimavaram, West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. A team from Andhra Pradesh Customs conducted a search at the address and arrested the accused, a 27-year-old engineering dropout. He had ordered the drugs online through the dark web and made the payment in bitcoin. The accused was brought to Chennai and remanded in judicial custody.

MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy, is a party drug that alters mood and perception. It is similar to both stimulants and hallucinogens, which produce feelings of increased energy and pleasure. The seized pills are extremely potent as they contain a very high dosage of MDMA. Dosage above 120 mg is considered fatal.
