Community kitchens to provide food for needy: Chief Minister Edappadi
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday said that food would be supplied from community kitchens to people in need in Chennai and its three neighbouring districts of Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu that would be under complete lockdown from Friday till the end of the month.

“In the areas where complete lockdown is implemented, community kitchens would be strengthened. Food would be provided directly from community kitchens for free at doorsteps for elderly, ill and destitutes till June 30,” the Chief Minister said in a statement.
State government would implement the complete lockdown from Friday to June 30 in Chennai and its three neighbouring districts of Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu. During the earlier phases of lockdown that was in force till May 31, food was provided at Amma Canteens free of cost. But from June 1, the free service was stopped.
However, in this phase of complete lockdown, Chief Minister announced that free food would be provided at Amma Canteens in Chennai and the three neighbouring districts.
In other districts, the regular service of Amma Canteens would continue by providing food at subsidised rate for public.
