“Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had ordered distribution of Rs 1,000 to 13.35 lakh differently-abled who possess national ID card at their doorstep. District Collectors would be the officials in-charge for implementing the order,” said Johny Tom Varghese, director, Differently-abled Welfare Department, in the order.

While announcing complete lockdown in Chennai and neighbouring districts of Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu, the Chief Minister had also announced a dole of Rs 1,000 for 13.35 lakh differently-abled persons across the State. As there was confusion among differently-abled persons on collecting the amount, the State government announced doorstep deliver and also issued guidelines for cash distribution.

According to the guidelines, the District Collector can choose a department in her/his jurisdiction to implement the order. The District Collector and the district different-abled welfare officer will be part of the team that is to be formed, the order said.

While distributing the cash at the doorstep, the officials should ensure that they follow all the COVID-19 precautions, including wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing norms. The cash should be handed over either to differently-abled or to their parents or caretakers.

Meanwhile, the process of distribution of Rs 1,000 announced to all the rice ration cardholders in Chennai and three neighbouring districts commenced on Monday. The PDS workers would deliver the dole at doorstep. From June 22 to 26, all the ration shops in the four districts would remain closed.
