6-yr-old slips into water tank during outage, dies

A six-year-old boy, who was playing outside his house in Chromepet, drowned in a water tank on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as S Santhosh Kumar of Nemilichery near Chromepet who was studying in Class 2. His father Selvaraj (38) is a construction worker.

On Tuesday night, Santhosh was playing outside the house with a few children in his neighbourhood when there was a power outage in the area. Unable to find his way in the darkness, Santhosh slipped and fell inside a water tank which was kept open.

A few minutes later, other children noticed this informed parents, and with the help of neighbours, Santhosh was rescued from the water tank. Though he was rushed to the Chromepet Government Hospital, he was declared dead on arrival. The Chitlapakkam police have registered a case and are inquiring.
